Happy Feet

disney, walt disney world, magic kingdom, main street isa, dapper dansThis picture doesn’t need a whole heck of a lot of explanative words – especially if you’ve ever seen The Dapper Dans on Main Street USA in The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Hmmm? Still can’t manage to just NOT say too much can I? Oh well 🙂

Gettin’ Ready To ‘Show My Disney Side’ :)

Castle Moon - 1So yah – in about 7 hours, 45 minutes, The Magic Kingdom Park will kick off it’s third 24 Hour Event here at Walt Disney World in Florida. FYI – Disneyland Resort in California is also hosting a simultaneous event. This time around, I’ll be shooting  ALL the high points. Granted, I won’t be there for the entire 24 hours straight. But I’ll be a part of the big kickoff at 0600 Friday morning (May 23rd, 2014). Then take a break during the day, returning in the evening until 0600 Saturday morning (May 24th, 2014)  for the ‘Kiss Goodnight” (or good morning as the case may be). I’ll be posting stuff  both here on this blog as well as my Twitter page. Feel free to follow Magic And Memories Blog here or on Twitter (https://twitter.com/magicnmemories).

We’ll chat soon – Mike T

A Few New Perspective Pictures

So yah, about a week or so ago I mentioned I was gonna get to go over to WDW and try and capture a few new shots from different perspective<dels and locations. Mission accomplished. However, I'm planning on posting a few shots at a time. These shots herein pretty much speak for themselves as far as what they are of. But as I say, they were all taken either from a different location, perspective or with an ultra wide angle lens – something I haven't had much chance to use for the most part. Hope ya like 'em. More to come.

RETRO: The 1999 Return Of “The Main Street Electrical Parade.”

I’ve actually posted this before I believe on the ‘old style’ blog I no longer use. Hence, I thought I’d post it here. But not just because I LOVE “ELP”, but also because Jennifer Fickley-Baker also posted this on The Disney Parks Blog today. Thanks Jennifer! 🙂

This video was part of a nationwide ad campaign back in 1999. The Electrical Parade you see in this video was actually being transported / transferred from Disneyland Resort in California to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Videos were taken for various TV commercials of the Parade making its trek across the country (backdrop scenes included deserts, mountains, lakes from different parts of the U.S. etc…). The last stop on the ad campaign trail was the parade arriving at Walt Disney World after its supposed long cross country trek. And THAT – is what you see portrayed in the video herein.

If you’re a fan of The Main Street Electrical Parade (or, “Disney’s Electrical Parade” as it’s now known), this is a MUST SEE! Imagine driving into or around Walt Disney World property at night and seeing this sight. I’ve been told (goods source but unconfirmed) that the vehicles that were told or allowed to pass the procession by Florida Highway Patrol refused – they wanted to stay in traffic so they could see and be a part of the event. I know I would’ve if I’d been driving that night 🙂

Disney’s New “Festival Of Fantasy Parade”

picture by Mike Thomas / Magic And Memories

I know, it’s been a while since I last posted. Just been incredibly busy with photo and video shoots everywhere! But today, Tuesday April 2nd, 2014, I FINALLY was able to get over to Magic Kingdom Park to view (for the first time) and shoot the new “Festival Of Fantasy Parade.” And let me tell ya’ – this is one high class, high calibre, high tech high energy, high everything parade. The details one the float units remind of Disney past. BEAUTIFUL! The performing Cast are better than ever. The music and the way it’s presented to the Guests is totally different then days gone by. Hard to explain without getting very geeky and tech-ee. But all the music blends and changes seamlessly. Not that it was bad before, but you don’t even notice the change in score on the street speakers or in the float unit speakers. It’s all WiFi based technology that someone put to great use. I could go on and on. But the only way to really feel it is of course to experience it live. I’ve included a link to one of my online galleries containing just under 50 pictures. The plan is for me to go back and get some video snippets to post here a little later. But I’m one that doesn’t wanna give it all away for free. I may show you a few highlights and a sample of the new (yes brand new) music score.

Notice Anything Different Here?

Mike Thomas Imagery: Magic Kingdom Park &emdash;
Like – maybe the water … or lack thereof? Yep – as part of the major Hub expansion project which is officially underway, all the water needed to be drained from the waterways in and around the Hub and Cinderella Castle. I don’t usually post ‘non-pretty shots’ on my blog. But I thought y’all might find this and a few other shots I captured and uploaded to my online gallery rather interesting. Good things are coming with all this. 🙂 Peace – Mike T

Reflections: Steam Train

While riding the Walt Disney World Railroad today, I grabbed this shot, of which I’d noticed on other rides on the old steam train. When you’re ridin’ the rails between New Fantasyland and Main Street Station, you pass the back of the Tomorrowland Arcade. The windows are convex and offer a unique reflection as you pass by. Today, I managed to capture it. Click the image itself to view more shots of mine in my online gallery.

What: You Never Saw A Genie Dancing In Front Of A Castle Before?

Mike Thomas Imagery: Magic Kingdom Park &emdash; Genie Dancing in MiSiCi w/ Cinderella Castle as backdrop
Most times, my bloggage and pictures combine to make some point. This post and this picture I captured a few days ago at Magic Kingdom / WDW – – – have no point whatsoever …. other than just plain fun & enjoyment. I grabbed the shot during ‘Mi-Si-Ci’ (“Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It”).

Malcolm Smith – You Just Won The Superbowl. What Are You Gonna’ Do Next?

(ANSWER): I’m Goin’ To Disney World!

Mike Thomas Imagery: Superbowl Next 2014 &emdash;
Well for those of you that don’t know, this really happens. In fact, it’s usually the very next day the MVP of the game shows up at Walt Disney World (and sometimes Disneyland Resort in California). Today, Malcolm Smith was greeted by thousands of supporting and adoring fans all along the parade route in The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World today (Monday February 3rd, 2014 – 2:30 PM). Mr. Smith was quite gracious as he waved and acknowledged the huge supporting group on the sidewalks all the way from Splash Mountain to Town Square on Main Street USA. Check out more pictures like the on herein. Just click the image itself to be taken to my online gallery for more.

Time For Some New Magic Kingdom Pics

Mike Thomas Imagery: Magic Kingdom Park &emdash; Taken from Liberty Square next to Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe with Cinderella Castle in background
So for reasons other than just picture taking, I found myself at The Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World today. Certainly was not your normal Sunshine State, warm, sunny day. Well, OK – it was sunny. But them temps started out at about 36 degrees for me this (5:00 AM) morning and warmed up to only about 64 by mid afternoon. BUT – this is my kinda weather lemme tell ya’ :). So after I did what I had to do, I strolled around for about an hour and attempted to be creative in taking different shots. Click on the above image to go to my online gallery to view four new shots (they’re the FIRST four in the gallery).

UCF FIesta Bowl Champs Parade Down Main Street USA

picture by me – Mike Thomas / Magic And Memories

Do you remember that commercial they ran for years immediately after the Superbowl concluded: “Hey ‘John Smith’, now that you’ve won the Superbowl, what are you gonna’ do next? … I’m goin’ to Disney World!” Well, it wasn’t quite like that, but close. After The University Of Central Florida Knights won the Fiesta Bowl a short time ago, they all wanted to come to Walt Disney World … and Disney said ‘YES’! The players, head coach, UCF President, marching band and more all visited Sunday January 12th, 2014 at 2:00 PM. The contingent marched the entire length of the (traditional) Parade Route from Splash Mountain all the way down to Main Street USA. Click on the photo itself atop this bloggage and you’ll be taken to my online gallery containing about 2 dozen more shots of this monumentous event.

Happy 40th Birthday Pirates Of The Caribbean @ Walt Disney World

picture by me - Mike Thomas / Magic And Memories
picture by Mike Thomas / Magic And Memories

After much planning by Walt Disney and his Imagineers back in the 1960’s, Pirates Of The Caribbean Attraction opened at Disneyland Resort in California in 1967. It was to be the last major project that Walt Disney would be personally involved in the creation thereof. A little more than two year after The Walt Disney World Resort opened in Florida, their version of Pirates opened this day, December 15th, 1973 in Adventureland at The Magic Kingdom Park in Florida. Happy Birthday to all ye’ scallywags who have taken up residence inside and outside the attraction.

So In Addition To The Last Post About The Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade …

DSC_8442… I was trying to do the “right” thing and not post too much initially. I wanted to see how much Disney was gonna post about the taping of the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade at Walt Disney World. Well, I feel it’s certainly OK to post a few other key pictures I took over the two day event last weekend. Specifically, a few shots of the main host, Mr. Neil Patrick Harris. Also included in the pictures below are some Guest and Cast Member shots that pretty much depict what great fun and festive attitudes filled the day.
